It seems that everyone is busier than ever these days. Our families, job(s), and life has a tendency to overwhelm even the most organized among us. And while the internet and technology can be huge time–wasters (emails, and browsing), there are some very good web tools and applications to help you organize your life.
Cozi.com – This website provides a great application for every family member to use in order to be on the same calendar “page.” You can organize shopping lists, family get-togethers, or chore schedules. Cozi.com provides a great way for families to keep tabs on what’s going on, easily. You can also generate a family journal. And what’s great about Cozi.com is that it can be used by everyone, from kids to adults – and it’s free!
Remember the Milk – RTM is one of those sites that come around in a great while and really makes a meaningful impact on the quality of your life. This site allows you to manage the tasks you establish from anywhere. You can get reminders through your email, text messaging, or IM. In addition you can get access right from your phone, or use with Google Calendar. With RTM, you can add tasks from iGoogle and manage your tasks offline too. A sign up is free and easy. This is a must use site if you like the idea of reminders of important tasks that you might forget.
BackPack at Backpackit.com is another great website created by the folks at Basecamp (a collaboration website and another that deserves a look too). Backpack allows you share information with your team, keep your documents, your schedules, and your discussions with those you work with all in one place. You can create web pages about absolutely anything and share them with your team. They offer a free trial and have a variety of plans. This is a powerful tool that can be used if you have several team members working on the same projects in different locations or time zones. (Also worth a look is Basecamp.com, another collaborate-approach cloud-based application.)
NowDoThis.com – to the average eye, this might seem like a very simple site, but many people out there like simplicity. NowDoThis.com allows you to create your daily lists, and then allows you to check it off. It’s so simple, that the first thing you might say is, “Is this it?” Yes, it’s the simplest and maybe one of the most effective online lists builders that can help you get things done, and move to the next page.
Traffic Alerts – An application by Global Area Network that can be downloaded to your Android which can provide you with up to the minute tracking on traffic in your area using GPS technology. It will also help warn you of any impending storms that might be coming your way.
The fact is that there are so many applications and software programs on the internet to use, but we can’t use them all! My recommendation is that you look around and try out a few that sound interesting and appealing. Go with the one you feel comfortable with and use it for a bit. If you like it, stick with it. If you don’t, then go on to something else.
I have personally been known to use several different but similar sites for different jobs, tasks, and other parts of my life (professional, personal, etc.), and have found out the hard way, that I didn’t use any of them well enough to generate any real time savings. If you find a couple of apps that appeal to you and your family, go for it. You just might save yourself a lot of headaches and that missed appointment!
