In a world where modern technology has given the United States its Strategic Defense Initiative, effectively placing emphasis on our use of all ground and space-based systems to protect the United States from attack by strategic nuclear ballistic missiles, and the use of GBI Missiles as a protective measure, it certainly has to make one wonder how a third world war could start, and the circumstances that led up to that fateful decision.
The energy crisis
As the world continues to go through climate changes and natural disasters, leaders around the globe are well aware of the need for crude oil to help continue to furnish the energy needed to help keep our homes lit, fuel our cars. There is also the initiative for Green Technology, as an alternative way to help meet the ever growing demand for energy across the globe.
But the question in the back of many people’s minds is just what would happen if any one world leader decided to hold other countries hostage via way of their need for energy. What could happen if the United States and Russia for example, were to ever decide that it was necessary to have sole control over a country that were a major crude oil producer, such as Saudi Arabia.
If the button were to be pushed, there would be no turning back, for either side.
The potential fallout
The potential for disaster in the above scenario is probably something that the minds in Washington have mulled over for many years, probably before the cold war began and ended. But, they weren’t the only ones that had thoughts about a situation like this arising.
The movie Red Dawn, a film from 1984, depicted the events that led up to an invasion of the USby the Soviet Unionand Latin American allies, basically Cubaand Nicaraguaon an alternate Earth in the 1980’s.
While that film shows paratroopers landing in a city in Colorado to begin a takeover of the US and it’s citizens, that is a reality that could not happen in present day America, not after the tragic events of 9/11, an event that has forever changed the way we as Americans view the world.
If an incident were to happen between the US and Russia, the attacks would be missile based and the fallout of that fateful push of the button on either side of the world, would almost guarantee a nuclear winter for both countries, unless something were to happen to our country’s missile guidance systems, such as a deliberate hacking into the systems responsible for launching those missiles.
Honestly, that could happen, it’s not like there haven’t been hackers who have tried and at times actually succeeded in hacking into heavily protected government systems, where private information is stored and at times has been compromised, often times by young geeky kids who were just looking for their latest thrill.
The aftermath
Maybe many of us have forgotten the events of Chernobyl, but if ever there were a nuclear missile strike between the USand Russia, that scenario would be like a walk in the park in comparison to the fallout if both of our countries declared war on one another. At the very least hundreds of thousands of lives lost on either side of the world after such an attack, and then either country would be easy pickings for an invasion from a lesser third world country.
But what would it look like here in the USA? Think of some of the scenes from movies that depict American landmarks totally destroyed. One very vivid scene that comes to mind is the scene from Planet of the Apes, where at one point there is a scene of the statue of Liberty, either rising out of the sand on a beach or an ocean gone totally dry, with the sun setting behind it as the human survivors realize that the planet they have crashed on is an alternate Earth.
That could very well be what Americawould look like. A barren, radioactive wasteland where the citizens of the United Stateshave been subjugated and are now slaves, quite possibly to a country that may have even been an ally to us at a different moment in time, and all of this due to the fateful push of a button.
