Over the last few years, the average American worker has really taken it on the chin. Many Americans have found themselves either being downsized, forced to give away benefits and take pay cuts to keep their jobs.
But for many out of work Americans, and even those who have grown tired of working a traditional job in corporate America, many of them have taken a non-traditional approach to being gainfully employed. They have taken their skill sets and have started their own business ventures on the web.
Introducing the internet
For many of us, the internet is not something new. We all use it for things like catching up with friends on Facebook, maybe reading an online newspaper, or reading our favorite blog, but most Americans have ignored the business aspect of the web.
While most of us have gotten up every day and dragged ourselves to traditional jobs such as factory work, or the office cubicle, there has been a whole counter culture happening on the web that most of us have missed. Many people have turned away from the usual day and evening work that people find acceptable and have been earning a living through online business ventures.
Earning on the net
When it comes to the internet, there are many ways to make money, and plenty of resources to help steer you in the proper direction. The three top jobs on the net to get involved in right away are:
• Blogger - A blogger is someone who writes on a particular niche topic that they find very interesting. A topic can be anything from a certain type of health food to writing about golf balls.
• Affiliate Marketer - An affiliate marketer is someone who sells digital products through online affiliate services such as Clickbank, and creates landing pages in order to sell these products. This can also be combined with blogging.
• eBay auctions - Everyone has heard of eBay. They have advertised on television, in traditional print and have also used online advertising channels to get their message across to America. It’s pretty simple to start a small business with eBay, but over the years the site has gotten very competitive, so you really have to discover a specific market that is not being tapped in order to really profit from an eBay business.
These are just some of the ways of starting an online business. Americans can take their work experience and begin brand new careers simply by starting a blog, and offering their services through their blogs or websites. If you have experience in the field of daycare, you could start your own blog talking about the issues that some may face starting a local daycare center from your home. And through the innovation and hard work you put in, you could become an authority in your niche topic.
That can lead to people asking for consultations for their business, selling your own brand of digital products through your blog and more. All it takes is the time to put into your endeavor, and a lot of patience, because a successful career as a blogger does not happen overnight.
More and more Americans have also started their own businesses through the use of freelance service sites such as Elance.com, and Freelancer.com, where they are able to bid on projects pertaining to their specific job skills. From IT providers to copywriters, if you have a skill to offer, theses sites along with more that seem to arrive on the net daily, offer you the chance to run your own online business and be your own boss.
Here is a very telling statistic that pretty well drives home this point:
“Work at home entrepreneurs number in the millions and it is reported that every 11 seconds someone starts a home based business that allows them to work at home. Also 20% of work at home businesses gross between 100k and 500k per year." -Money Magazine
This doesn’t take into consideration the number of people who begin businesses in fields that they had no experience in at all. Through trial and error, and a lot of guidance through online support groups, these Americans have been able to totally transform their lives through an internet business. Freeing up time to spend with their family, and be the masters of their own destinies.
That is the root of entrepreneurship and the dream that more and more Americans are starting to reach for everyday.
