I suppose it is easy to blame politicians and rich business people for what ails our nation. These people are easy targets. Everyone knows who they are. Also it's easy to see these folks with their money and power and figure that they are to blame for all the problems. After all, we didn't do anything right? We don't have any power or influence. What did we do wrong?
Well, the first thing we the little people do wrong in my opinion is, we do not use our brains. Politics is boring, we'd rather watch some dumb TV show where people sing badly and get ripped by a bunch of has beens and never wases. NONE of these people are in office that didn't get put there by us. Think about that.
Even if you didn't vote, you still had a hand in these idiots and corrupt a-holes getting into power. Because you did nothing to stop them. So what should we do about it?
First, don't assume that everybody else's congressman is corrupt, but mine is a good guy. Yours is just as corrupt as everyone else's. He no more deserves to be a multilp term senator than anyone else's. Vote the bastard out. ANYONE going for a third term should be defeated just for that reason alone.
Second, understand that goverenment money is OUR money. It is not theirs. They literally stole it from our pay checks. Since we cannot stop them from stealing it, at least demand that they spend it wisely. Don't buy the BS that we have to spend more money than we have or the world as we know it will cease to exist. Actually, that would be a good thing.
Third, get off your lazy ass and get to work. I understand that these days that is more difficult than ever. Benn there and done that. But don't get into a habit off living off the government. If you're getting government assistance, strive to get off of it. If you are taking money from the government, you are part of the problem.
We are definitely to blame for not voting out corrupt politicians and for not demanding things like term limits. Term limits and making lobbying illegal (the way it is practiced now anyway) would make changes in Washington faster and more effectively than anything else that could be enacted.. If you can't be a career politician, the money would stop flowing to you. We have to keep informing our neighbors in order to get people interested again in taking control of their own lives, and one way to do that is through the vote.
The whole thing has turned into a game show. You are right that people are too lazy to think and learn about what is really happening in our country before it is huge news all over the place. Because people dont think they sit back and let things happen, then bad things happen due to greed, then the news jumps on it and turns it into a game of lets play judge and jury and all the people get to jump all over it and all of a sudden act like they care when too few people really care and definitely too few people actually do something about it. Our lives have turned into a tv show. People love to banter about things and pretend that they can just tune it out when they want to so they can go on with their little lives.
I agree that many Americans are happy to blame politicians, while it is partially their fault that those politicians are in power. Democracy is great, but it only works if people participate. It has become the norm for voter turnout to be extremely low, and that is unacceptable.
The problem is that people only care after the fact, when it is too late. If they had educated themselves, and voted on election day, maybe they would not have the representative that they do. A big problem is that sometimes the only knowledge a voter has of the candidates are negative campaign television ads. Most voters do not look any further than the mudslinging that is put right in their face. This typically produces misinformed voters or nonvoters.
Our country needs voters who are educated and actually show up to represent their stances, but I'm not sure how we can get there.
Here is what is REALLY going on in this country. It does not matter if you vote Democrat or Republican, because BOTH have been bought and paid for by the Fortune 500 fat cats. And that is the truth. Barack Obama was supposed to be for the "little guy", right? Does anyone think he got the money to run his billion dollar capaign from bums? Hell no. He got the money from guess where? BIG BUSINESS!
So Big Copr decides that they can make a couple extra % by closing down their plant in Little Town, USA and move it to china. Is Lord Barack going to do anything about this? Of course he isn't. Because THOSE people put him in office and have been greasing his dirty little pams for the last four years. Oh sure, he talks a good game in front of the TV cameras about evil corporations not paying their fair share and shipping jobs overseas and blah blah blah. But what has he DONE about it? NOTHING!
Are we any better off now than we were four years ago? I know I'm not.
Why are we in such horrible shape? Well, it's basic math really. If you keep shipping jobs out of the country, and people who lost them cannot replace them, then what happens? They can't spend money on the STUFF that these Big Money Corps make. Multiply that times millions of people and you get what we have here today. Do the big businesses care? Not when they have the politicains there to "bail them out" so they can build even more factories in China and ship even more jobs there.
But every four years we get these jerks telling us they are going to go and fix this, only to take millions of dollars from the same fat cats that caused all this.
So what should WE the people do about it? Stop buying their stuff. That's it. Stop buying products that were made in China. If this means you cannot buy any new shoes, then don't. Buy shoes at a thrift store if you have to. Look at what you buy and look for those little stickers that say "made in Taiwan" or "Made in China" and put it back on the shelf.
That's the whole point. Everybody is looking for who's fault it is. It's everybody's fault. Now shut up and do something to fix it. If that means getting off your ass and reading up on what you should be paying attention to and going to vote, then do it.
I think you are right we have some problems, but the focus shouldnt be who to blame! The other night my kids broke a vase in the living room. They both stood their wanting to blame each othe as the water leaked onto the rug. Yes, the vase was broken but instead of cleaning it up they spent their energies trying to place the blame on each other! What that does is simply take away the energy away from doing the right thing. I really like the idea of focusing on solutions and innovation. America is an innovative country. Yes, we need to get off our asses, but not to blame, but to be innovative.
