In a move to avert a nightmare scenario, a bipartisan U.S. Senate effort is currently taking root in WashingtonD.C.to raise the debt ceiling. The emerging deal would make substantive reforms to Medicare and Social Security (details pending), in addition to raising some tax revenue.
